Bites: La Fonda on Main

On a recent day trip to San Antonio, my family and I ate at this restaurant called La Fonda on Main for lunch. I was skeptical at first. Being from New Mexico, I’ve eaten at probably 10 different Mexican restaurants with that same name and none of them are ever good. THIS ONE HOWEVER…

Nestled in what felt like a really old neighborhood was this charming little restaurant that looked so different from what I had in my head- and shame on me for the assumption. It was beautiful! The vibe was very coastal Mexico, and you better believe I got pictures with my husband in this setting lol. We sat outside and loved the energy and decor on the patio. Not only that, but the food was outrageous in the best way. So much so that I only got a picture of my entree because everything else we ordered was devoured as soon as it hit the table! We started with watermelon agua frescas and chips and salsa, then ordered the La Fonda Nachos to share. For an entree, I ordered the Poblano de Queso from their specials menu. SO GOOD. Super spicy, flavorful and rich. I ate literally every bite. Somehow I missed their postres menu and didn’t get anything for dessert but I’ve got my eye on the seasonal empanadas for next time.

I’d recommend La Fonda on Main to anyone for a special occasion or date night. You could definitely dress up and go, and I’m sure it’s beautiful in the evening with all the lights. Fun fact, this place is allegedly San Antonio’s oldest Mexican restaurant! Check out the menu on their website, and prepare to plan your visit!
